Hi, I'm Jo
Jo Barden Design is an independent creative studio specialising in brand, campaign and editorial design for youth organisations, education teams and purpose-led brands.

With over 20 years’ experience, I work closely with marketing and communications teams to create thoughtful, engaging design that helps organisations communicate clearly, connect with their audience and bring ideas to life.
Good design should do more than just look good…
Good design should do more than just look good. It should help people understand, engage and take action.

That’s why every project is built with clarity, creativity and real-world use in mind, whether it’s a campaign identity, annual report, event branding or a full set of marketing materials.

I work as a creative partner and extension of your team, supporting organisations with flexible, reliable design across print, digital and brand communications.
Where it all started
Before starting Jo Barden Design in 2021, I spent over a decade working in-house for one of the UK’s largest youth organisations, leading design across campaigns, publications, events and national initiatives.

That experience shaped the way I work today — collaborative, audience-focused and built around creating design that genuinely connects with people.
Inspired by people, places and storytelling
Outside of design, I’m inspired by the outdoors, illustration, typography and visual storytelling, influences that often find their way into my work through bold layouts, playful details and engaging brand systems.

I believe the best creative work comes from strong relationships, honest collaboration and understanding the people you’re designing for.
A few things about me...
01
I love lettering and typography
Before going freelance full time, I ran a hand lettering and calligraphy business alongside my in-house design role. From custom wordmarks to full wedding stationery ranges, it sharpened my eye for detail, typography and craft, and still influences how I design today.
02
I’m creative in everyway
Whether it’s baking, gardening, decorating or making something from scratch, I’ve always enjoyed creating. Design just happens to be where it all came together.
03
You’ll usually find me outdoors
When I’m not working, I’m often exploring forests, practising yoga or cycling with my two boys and husband. It’s how I switch off, recharge and come back with fresh perspective.
