Hi, I'm Jo Barden
I'm a freelance graphic designer based in London, with over 20 years of experience working in-house, agency and freelancing. I love what I do, and am passionate about bringing ideas to life through bold, thoughtful design from ideation through to completion.
After graduating with a degree in Graphic Design in 2007, I’ve built a career supporting businesses, with creative solutions and strategic design that helps amplify their message and make an impact.
In 2021, I launched my business, Jo Barden Design, stepping into the world of freelance to offer professional, thoughtful design support to purpose-driven clients. I focus on building strong meaningful brands and creating clear engaging visual communications across print and digital.
Over the years, I've worked on a wide range of projects from book design and brand guidelines to campaigns, posters, to animation and presentations and bid submissions. I've supported businesses and organisations across the UK, designing and developing brands and visual assets that have been used internationally and shared with audiences around the world.
Whether I'm creating a new identity from the ground up, evolving an existing brand or creating new assets. I love working closely with clients as an extension of their team. Bringing experience, energy, and a practical, down-to-earth mindset to every project.

Favourite part time job?
Whilst I was studying graphic design, I had a part time job at Little Chef – yes the motorway restaurant know for it's all-day breakfasts. Okay, the food wasn't exactly Michelin-starred, but being front of house, working as a team and chatting to customers taught me a lot about people and patience!

Loves lettering and typography
Before I started freelancing full time, I ran my own creative business alongside my in-house graphic design role, specialising in hand lettering and calligraphy for a range of clients. This included anything from custom wordmarks to full wedding stationery ranges. That experience sharpened my eye for detail, typography and craft and still influnces how I approach branding and design today. With care, personality and a strong appreacition for the hand made.

Away from my desk
When I'm not designing, you can find me spending time outdoors, exploring forests, practicing yoga or cycling (definitely not all at once) with my two boys and husband.
